The morning of October 17th will start with opening remarks from John A. Mastropietro, State of Connecticut Workers' Compensation Chairman. It will be followed by Keynote Speaker David North, CEO, Sedgwick Claims Management Services, who will be speaking on “Workers’ Compensation Industry Trends: Where Might We Be In 2023?

I get to follow Mr. North, moderating a panel of distinguished industry professionals in a session entitled “Challenges in Workers’ Compensation: How Do We Get to 2023!” My panel cohorts are:

Fernando Lomanto, Unilever
Gregory McKenna, Gallagher Bassett
Stephen Tyler, American Water Works
Patrick Jewell, Esq., OnPoint Underwriting
Eric Wasserbach, Amtrust
Scott Anderson, People's United Insurance

As you may know, I am a huge fan of the National Workers’ Compensation Defense Network and their bi-annual seminars. This will be the first time I have had the opportunity to participate in a NWCDN session, and I think they’ve given me a killer   topic and panel to work with. We face many challenges over the next decade, from changes in medical management to technology innovations and workplace automation. This panel, with a tremendous depth of experience from a variety of stakeholders, should be able to touch on some fairly significant insights as to how we get “from here to there”.

Other session topics of the day include Pulmonary Claims, Medical Cost Management, Medical Marijuana and Joint Replacement (not related to Medical Marijuana).

This seminar is open to NWCDN member firms and their invited guests. Employers and insurance professionals are also welcome to register. There is no charge for this event.

The Hartford Seminar opens with a Cocktail Reception on October 16, 2013, at the Connecticut Science Center. The Seminar will be held October 17, 2013, at the Hartford Marriott Downtown.

If you are in the Hartford area and can attend, I highly recommend you do so. Interested persons can get more information by downloading the PDF file in the attachments box to the right of this article. You may register here. I expect you won’t be disappointed. After all, how else will you know where we will all be in 2023?
